EDMONTON, ALBERTA
What a joy it was to join with many believers in Edmonton & Area and 212 nations of the world to lift up and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. Our theme this year was "The Prayers of a Million Mothers" and it was a time of honoring mothers and women on May 11, Pentecost Sunday and Mother's Day. Mixing worship, dance and prayer we joined together to repent and to pray for local, provincial, national and international needs.
For the "Prayer for the World," four ladies representing four different nationalities (First Nations, Spanish, Chinese and African) stood in the four corners of the auditorium representing the four corners of the world and prayed.
Acknowledging that the deepest desire of a mother's heart was for her children, we had constructed a special "Prayer Chest" and invited mothers (and fathers) to bring forward pictures and names of their own children or grandchildren or ones that they knew, who are unsaved, prodigals or Christian children who need prayer. Many streamed forward with photos and names and placed their "treasure" in the Prayer Chest. Several pastors, ministers and the youth led us in prayer for these children - the unsaved, the prodigal and Christian children as we lifted them before the throne of grace. (The Prayer Chest has been subsequently moved to other prayer centers in this region as we continue to cry out for these children).
We felt led to continue with the focus on praying for children and introduced to the congregation two new initiatives - A new website designed by the Global Day of Prayer Edmonton Committee specifically for the prayer needs of children around the world at www.MillionMothers.com and a seminar to be given in two weeks' time called "Spiritually Parenting Your Children" led by Breakthrough Prayer Ministry (Power to Change), which will teach parents and others how to pray for children, "the lost, the prodigal and the found."
We followed with our Million Mothers focus and prayers were offered locally and around the world for mothers, for women and for women in distress. We concluded with an inspirational challenge by Karen Braun of Breakthrough Prayer Ministry, symbolically dressed in a knight’s metal suit of chain mail as she encouraged all to “inquire, hear and obey for the advance of God’s Kingdom” for our families and loved ones. She also called forth and commissioned the “Next Gen” of women to rise up and take their position in the body of Christ.
Overall it was a glorious time as we joined together in unity with the body of Christ locally and the body of believers globally.
