Indonesia is made up of 33 Provinces and 17000 islands. The population is 234 million people in this nation which consists of 746 ethnic groups. In it self Indonesia is a tremendous mission field for Unreached People Groups (UPGs). About 15% of the population identify themselves as Christians.
In 1990 a national prayer network was formed, which has grown to involve prayer networks in over 220 cities and towns. As people united in prayer, they found other things worth uniting around.
Daniel Pandgi, the General Facilitator of the National Prayer Network of Indonesia reports that the 10 days and the Global Day of Prayer took place in more than 167 places in his Nation. The Churches mobilized themselves in taking up the days and hours during the 10 days, filling every day with 24 hours of nonstop prayers. All the different prayer groups (pastors, arts, youth, children, business, woman and politics) participated. Large numbers of children and youth where involved this year, not only involved but children leading the prayers. Daniel says the biggest testimony of this GDOP process is the unity that it continues to build in his nation. Every Church embraces this process and works together for the glory of God.
Papua is the most eastern province of Indonesia. This is the second largest island in the world with an estimated 3 million people and more than 270 languages. The Governor of this province instructed every one in this province to participate in the Global Day of Prayer. Not only to pray, but to fast and pray on this day.
Miracles happened on this day and still continue everyday.
People participate in giving everyday to the Josef storehouse in the cities. These storehouses are a Christian initiative to bless the poor, and distribute in collaboration with the local governments to the needy.
