We praise the Lord that He has allowed us to participate here in Spain, once again this year, in what some people consider the biggest prayer meeting in the history of the Church worldwide. We also thank all of you who joined this endeavor. It's true that in some of the 214 countries that participated this year, they had multitudinous events. But in others, with the same fervor, they had much smaller prayer meetings. In Spain, little by little, we are catching the vision, and joining this great prayer movement. We know of a church in the Basque Country (in the north of Spain) that decided to have a special prayer meeting on Sunday, May 11, as a part of the Global Day of Prayer. We also know that there are two other ministries that promote the GDOP in Spain, one in Malaga and the other in Roquetas de Mar (Almeria).
We in Madrid celebrated this day with an all-night prayer vigil in an interdenominational prayer and evangelism center in the heart of Madrid. That night, although we were just a few people, we received a real visitation of the Lord. Our focus was to prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit in our lives, like the disciples of Acts 2. A young man there that responded to the invitation to receive prayer to experience a new Pentecost in his life, was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. Also in this prayer vigil, we prayed for a visitation of the Spirit in the lives of the young people all over Spain and Europe.
On Saturday, May 10, a group of pastors and prayer leaders met in the same prayer and evangelism center in Madrid, to plan prayer activities for the year 2009. We intentionally planned this meeting for Saturday, May 10, knowing that in that way we would be surrounded with the prayers of many Christians all over the world. At the beginning of the meeting, we read Chapter 5 of the book Rees Howells, Intercessor, where the author tells about how Rees Howells gave his life more fully over to the leading of the Holy Spirit. After this, we were inspired to cry out to God that the Holy Spirit would come to our own lives in a new and fresh way, because we are seeing more and more that without Him, we are only flesh. At the end of the meeting, we left with a beautiful sense of the presence of the Lord... and our planning meeting flowed much better as well!
We believe that these blessings, received around the celebration of the Global Day of Prayer, are like drops of water that announce the coming of the torrential rain of the Spirit that the Lord will pour out in the days to come. So, we are praying that in 2009, this event will be much stronger in Spain, and that we will all be inspired to seek the torrential rain of blessing that the Lord is going to pour out over this nation.
