The Right to Believe

Say YES to religious liberty, NO to the Defamation of Religions Resolution

Even though many nations of the world guarantee religious freedom in their Constitution, numerous Christians living in these mostly Muslim countries are severely impacted by restrictive laws.

Open Doors believes that every person has the right to choose and practice their religion based on their convictions and conscience, rather than their family of birth, ethnicity or people group.

RECENT UPDATE

During 2010 Open Doors collected over 429,641 signatures from more than 70 countries saying YES to religious liberty and NO to the Defamation of Religions Resolution. They symbolically handed over the petition forms to the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights of the United Nations.

So, if you´re one of the people who have signed this petition, you´re part of a global choir, a chorus of Christians speaking up on behalf of their brothers and sisters, the persecuted Christians, who don’t have a voice.

Thank you very much for adding your voice and making a difference.

The Defamation of Religions Resolution has been voted on in the General Assembly every year since 2005 and is expected to be brought up again in New York this year. Support for the resolution has declined since 2008 with the number of no votes and abstentions increasing. Concerted action now could make all the difference.

Please pray:

  • Pray that the Defamation of Religious Resolution will be rejected at the General Assembly of the United Nations that will take place at the end of this year.
  • Pray for religious freedom, so that all believers will have the liberty and right to openly practise their faith.
  • Pray that every person will have the opportunity to choose their religion based on their convictions and their conscience, rather than being dictated by their family of birth, ethnicity or people group.
  • Pray that every person across the earth will get the opportunity and have the right to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Pray that every believer will have the right to own their own Bible.
  • Pray for perseverance for new believers in predominantly Muslim-countries, who are under pressure to return to Islam.
  • Pray that those converts who are restricted by the laws of their governments to change their religious status on their identification cards, like Egypt, will have the opportunity to change their religious status.
  • Pray that God will strengthen and protect those believers facing violence and death threats due to their faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Pray that God will bless the church leaders working to support Believers from a Muslim Background with wisdom and courage.
  • Praise God that many Christians are sharing the Gospel. Pray that the Church would continue to grow.
