“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked
ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
(2 Chronicles 7: 14)
STRATEGY

Following the example of the first believers who "joined together constantly" in prayer (Acts 1:14) until the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the Global Day of Prayer is calling Christians from all nations to unite in prayer.

A simple strategy will be implemented each year:

10 – 1 – 90

  • A Global Day of Prayer (Moving from large events to more smaller locations, including as many people as possible)
  • 10 Days of day-and-night prayer preceding and leading up to the Global Day of Prayer
  • 90 Days of Blessing and continuing prayer, following the Global Day of Prayer

PLUS

  • Bi-weekly newsletters with prayer challenges from the nations, information, tools and teaching to mobilize prayer from our many partners in the global prayer movement

Why are we gathering?
The primary purpose we gather is for the glory of Christ and the blessing of the nations. To seek God and exalt His Son for one reason only, because He is worthy. The day is approaching when everything will be subject to His glory. We are motivated by who He is not what we will get from our coming together. We must keep the main thing the main thing—which is Jesus. We seek to honour Him at the prayer event/gathering and in the planning process as well. He has called us to come before him “in all things with prayer and thanksgiving.” Our biggest challenge will be to leverage the energy from our events to facilitate a lifestyle of prayer, including all Christians and impacting every sphere of society.

Why 10-1-90?
We find inspiration for the Global Day of Prayer in the three parts of the birth of the Church (Acts 1 – 2)

  • ten days of constant prayer leading to Pentecost;
  • one day of prayer witnessed by the whole city;
  • and days of blessing that followed.

For these reasons, the Global Day of Prayer has three key elements.

Ten days of constant prayer:
On Ascension Day, millions of Christians will find ways to pray night and day throughout the ten days leading to Pentecost, following the pattern of Christ's followers before the first Pentecost.

The Global Day of Prayer:
On Pentecost Sunday, Christians in almost every country will assemble to pray. Many will gather in small groups such as prayer groups, homes, local churches, businesses and some may even assemble in large stadiums and other public venues. In some places, television, radio and internet will help to connect and align our prayers even more. Once again the challenge would be to mobilise an all-year-round move of prayer.

Ninety days of blessing:
As in the first Pentecost, transformed Christians transform their communities as they offer themselves to God as instruments through which their prayers can be answered. The Global Day of Prayer anticipates the forming or furthering of local alliances among pastors, churches, missions and business leaders, to bring practical, transformational blessing to their communities. This is where prayer becomes a lifestyle.
